Are you (and/or your family) football fans? Now is the perfect time to make an adorable football onesie of your favorite team! You could also make these as gifts as well!
Appliqued football onesie
As you see in the photo, our blood runneth BLUE, therefore we needed a blue onesie, some cute football and letter appliques and tutu material, to start off with.
Go to your local Hobby Lobby or craft store to find solid color onesies in all sizes. Remember, when you wash the onesie, it will shrink a bit, so be sure to allow for this when you purchase it.
If you would like a tutu to go with it, go to the tulle section, and find the color(s) of tulle you would like to use. Go here for the no-sew tutu tutorial for step-by-step EASY instructions on how to make a tutu.
Go to the applique section and find the number that you would like to use. I chose 2 because my husband was #2 when he played football, so I knew it would make it even more special if I used his number (this was a birthday present to him from our daughter, by the way).
What’s a football onesie without a football? Find your favorite football or cheer leading appliques to attach to the onesie. Get creative and have fun with this! Your limits are endless, as long as you remember to stick with a size that will fit the onesie appropriately.
One fun thing you might want to add is your last name (or your daughter/son’s name) to the onesie – how cute would this be for a keepsake? Buy a letter sheet in your favorite font in the applique section.
If you have a girl, don’t forget a bow to match! What is an outfit without a bow, anyway?
First, you will want to wash your onesie. Then applique the letters/designs on using the instruction sheet that they come with. One hint when appliqueing monograms and names: use a ruler to make sure you get the letters/numbers lined up properly.
Make your tutu using the tutorial listed above, or if you have a little man, buy some football legwarmers to top off the outfit 🙂 Amazon has some cute and reasonably priced legwarmers, as well as Etsy. Zulily will also have flash deals on these types of things.
